Jon Cairns spilled a whole bunch of magic all over JD Smiths perfect pencils, and I’m F’n pumped with the outcome!
When one of my comics or pitches is in production I’m constantly, anxiously waiting. No matter how fast an artist is, it’s not fast enough. I check my e-mail first thing when I wake up and every hour or so after.
The pure unbridled excitement I feel when I see that e-mail from a penciller, colorist, or letterer is truly awesome. To see your ideas realized on that page, in an art form you love so whole heartedly is a damn near religious experience.
The only thing I can liken it to, is the high after playing a great rock show. The small handful of times that a band I’ve been in pulled off a show we were proud of, I could barely talk to anyone after. I was shaky, so in awe of the fact that we had actually been able to achieve what we’d talked about, planned, and practiced so many times.
That is how I feel about Just Another Sheep, in awe. Of the quality of work, that Jon and JD are delivering and if I do say so myself, of the story! As I prepare to get ready to pitch this puppy I have already come to a very important conclusion. Regardless of whether Just Another Sheep finds a home at a publisher I’m gonna make sure it’s finished.
That’s a hefty undertaking, my goal is for the story to be twelve issues long, and quality artists aren’t (and shouldn’t be) cheap. But the hustle will be worth it. Because I fucking love comics, and Just Another Sheep is a damn good one.
